Google eyeing WiMAX
New Delhi: Google has been interested in fully open mobile web and the company is particularly interested in supporting cheap internet access. Google has shown interest in the Indian WiMAX sale.

The reasons for this interest are that Google wants to increase pressure on regulators and rival bidders so that they introduce more open rules and also it plans to arrange a network for service provider partners to offer new services.
In India Google is eyeing the WiMAX spectrum at 2.3GHz rather than the 3G sale. It has made investments in Wi-Fi metrozones, Clearwire’s WiMAX build-out and emerging technologies such as femtocell specialist Ubiquisys.
Google can bid for a national license rivaling with an Indian company or go for a partnership in a joint venture. Revised Indian rules say that a foreign company can get only 74% of a license owner.
The 3G frequencies will be most definitely availed by local or foreign operators. Whereas, WiMAX is going to attract new carriers and revenue models and serve for expansion of broadband access.
