Mumbai: Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has now decided to let non-English domain names be created on the worldwide web.
Languages like Chinese, Korean and Arabic would now be used as substitute English names for domains.
ICANN Chairman Peter Dengate Thrush informs “This is a culmination of years of work, tests, study and discussion by the Icann community”.
He adds “To see this finally start to unfold is to see the beginning of an historic change in the internet and who uses it.”
While addressing the meeting on non-English IDNs, Thrush said “The introduction of IDNs is a major turning point in the history of the internet”.
