Mumbai: A whole new line of smartphones is being offered from various handset makers. The latest gadgets in the near future are the Nokia N900, the Motorola Droid and the HTC HD2. Along with 3 new touchscreen phones named Betouch e101, Betouch e200 and Neotouch by Acer.

Motoroal Droid is an Android 2.0 phone while HTC HD2 runs Windows Mobile 6.5. The Neotouch also runs Windows Mobile 6.5 and has its own custom UI running.
The most desirable phones around the holiday season are the Nokia N900 and the HTC HD2.
But fans of the HD2 might have to wait a bit longer due to the delay in its launch. The N900 is due later this month, while the Neotouch and the Droid are already available overseas.

That Droid is the must-have phone. I’m sure this will be a very popular phone around the world.
I wonder why anybody would want Windows Mobile now, as the operating system is not multi-touch aware, so after you get through the skin interface that HTC bolted on, you find yourself in the awful Windows Mobile menus that looks like it is from 10 years ago, with tiny icons that really need a stylus pen to operate properly. The HTC HD2 has been hobbled by its horrible Windows Mobile operating system.
The Acer Betouch phones are also less desirable because of the antiquated Windows Mobile software. It seems that Acer dumped these on the Indian market, as they can’t sell them in the USA. Meanwhile, Acer is shifting to the Android operating system for other markets. It would be better to wait until you can get one of Acer’s Android phones.
Nokia’s N900 is very interesting. First phone with Nokia’s ‘Maemo’ operating system. I think Maemo is the wildcard in phone platforms, and it could do very well as it matures. The N900 is certainly a very good handset.
